Teens & Pregnancy
Fortunately, numbers are rising for teen moms who actually finish high school, but recent reports show that 2 out of 3 teen moms will not graduate from high school. For those that do finish high school, a very small percentage will move on to obtain a college degree. That means that many of these mothers and their children will live at the poverty level.

Another devastating fact is that these children will be raised in a single parent household. The majority of teen pregnancies are unplanned and most parents are unmarried and will not likely marry as a result of a having a child together.

Teenage fathers will be subjected to paying child support which could cost up to 25% of an earned paycheck. This is a hefty price to pay if one is only earning minimum wage. Because the government does not want to foot this bill, it will do everything possible to collect this money from the person responsible for paying child support. They will go as far as deducting one’s paycheck before that person can spend a dime!

Another devastating statistic is that 1 in 3 women who get pregnant will choose to have an abortion because they feel they have no other choice. A pregnant teen may feel as if she cannot tell her parents she is pregnant or that the child’s father will not support her. She may also feel that she must finish school or that she cannot provide for the child financially. These are very common reasons that pregnant teens choose abortion. This is a very difficult decision to make and can be traumatizing and emotionally damaging to a woman that makes this decision.

Those that do not choose to parent their child, or have an abortion, will choose to place their baby for adoption. This can be a great alternative but still a hard one to face. The great news is that the parents of the child will have the ability to choose the adoptive parents for their child, ensuring that they choose parents that they feel will best raise the child. Open adoption has become much more prevalent in recent years as the natural parents can elect to contact the adoptive parents from time to time.

As you can see, unplanned pregnancies can result in having to make very difficult and life changing decisions.

It is in your power to protect yourself from having to make these very difficult decisions before you are ready.  We believe that remaining abstinent until marriage is the best way to protect yourself.  Please choose wisely.
